I was fortunate to share a table with some friends from BCWH architects at an event hosted by the “Maymont Dooley Noted Society” this past Saturday evening. The Dooley Noted Society is a group of young professionals that host events throughout the year to benefit Maymont through volunteering and fundraising opportunities. For those who don’t know, Maymont is a 100 acre estate that was deeded to the City of Richmond by the Dooley’s in 1925 under the stipulation that they would never charge the public to enjoy the grounds. Although it was indeed a very charitable gift, they did not leave any funds for the maintenance of the property. Therefore, Maymont relies on the support of generous members of the community to keep its doors open to the public. The event held on Saturday included a silent and live auction to benefit this vey cause. We all dressed in our derby finest and watched the Kentucky derby on a large projection screen followed by the live auction and dancing. It was a memorable night at one of my favorite places in Richmond!
If you are interested in supporting this wonderful Richmond landmark there are many opportunities to volunteer or donate. Just check out their website: http://www.maymont.org/membership!
